European conference of defence and the environment

The 3rd European Conference of Defence and the Environment (ECDE) will take place in Helsinki, May 31, 2017. The conference is organized by the Finnish defence administration and is supported by DEFNET, an informal, expert-level, group comprising mainly of environmental focal-points and specialists from the Ministries of Defence (MODs) of EU Member States, and Nordic-Baltic Defence Estates, which is a cooperation forum for building and construction organizations of defence administrations in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The ECDE is Europe’s premier conference on the environmental impacts of military operations, live-fire training on military training lands and management of environmentally hazardous substances.

The special theme of ECDE 2017 is PFC contamination on military sites. We invite experts in their fields from throughout Europe and North America to present their research and R&D at this conference.

In addition the conference covers topics such as environmental management, policy and legislative issues, and energy efficiency of military facilities. It provides a discussion forum for all stakeholder groups including policy and decision makers, subject matter experts, authorities, academics and the industry. In its first two editions in 2013 and 2015, the ECDE attracted more than 100 participants from all over the Europe and North America.

The conference fee will include accomodation and dinners on board a cruise ship travelling from Helsinki to Stockholm and back.
